In the case of the most extreme individuals, their heart rate during such an episode can be up to 60 bpm higher than their resting heart rate. For most sufferers of anxiety, the increase is usually around 20 bpm.
With the proliferation of Arduino and biometric devices, it is eminently possible to create something that can make an user aware of their heart-beat in a relaxing or even playful manner. The benefit of this awareness is that mindfulness has been shown to be an extremely effective method of managing panic attacks.
